Become A Member-Owner

When you join our credit union, we will open a primary savings account with your refundable deposit of $25. That $25 deposit buys you a share of our credit union, making you a member-owner and gives you access to all of the financial services we offer.

  • To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

    What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, an other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

Fun fact: Serve Credit Union is one of the few closed field of membership credit unions left in Iowa. This means that we have a set list of eligibility requirements that have to be met in order to obtain membership. Membership of this credit union shall consist of and be limited to:

  1. Employees, volunteers and retired personnel of public safety agencies located within the State of Iowa that enforce laws, rules and ordinances, or protect life and property from fire or injury;
  2. Employees, volunteers and retired personnel of any federal, state, county, or city governmental agencies who lives, works, or worships within Polk County or the contiguous counties of Dallas, Boone, Story, Jasper, Marion, Warren, and Madison;
  3. U.S. Department of Agriculture Employees in Iowa;
  4. Employees, board members, volunteers, retired personnel of all schools in Polk County and contiguous counties of Dallas, Boone, Story, Jasper, Marion, Warren and Madison;
  5. Employees of the credit union;
  6. Employees of small employee groups: Hawkeye Security Insurance Company, L.B. and B Associates Inc., NASDA Enumerators and Stewardship Statistics Bureau;
  7. Public safety associations, institutions, departments, governmental entities, organizations and their members within the State of Iowa that enforce laws, rules and ordinances or protect life and property from fire or injury;
  8. Members who have separated employment prior to retirement and have maintained continuous membership status;
  9. Members of Polk County Schools Employees Credit Union as of the date of merger, October 1, 2016;
  10. Members of USDA Credit Union as of the merger date, May 1st 2015;
  11. Including family members. Family members shall include persons in the same household, and persons related to the member by the first, second or third degree of consanguinity or affinity, including foster children, adoptive children, and such relatives of a deceased member;

Am I Eligible?

Membership of this credit union shall consist of:

  • Employees, volunteers and retired personnel of public agencies located within the State of Iowa that enforce laws, rules and ordinances, or protect life and property

  • Public Agency Associations, institutions, departments, government entities, organizations and their members within the State of Iowa that enforce laws, rules and ordinances or protect life and property

  • Employees, volunteers and retired personnel of any federal, state, county, or city governmental agencies within the State of Iowa

  • Teachers, administrators, employees, board members, volunteers, retired personnel of all schools and recognized private homeschooling within the State of Iowa

  • Education Associations, institutions, departments, government entities, organizations and their members within the State of Iowa that deliver and support educational services

  • The family members of members of Serve Credit Union, Family members shall include persons in the same household, and persons related to the member or spouse by blood or marriage including:

    • Parents, Grandparents, Great Grandparents

    • Children, Grandchild, Great Grandchildren

    • Brothers, Sisters

    • Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles

    • Step and/or Foster Children

    • Relatives of a deceased member

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Employees in Iowa

  • Employees of small employee groups as approved by the Superintendent

  • Member of Polk County Schools Employees Credit Union as of the date of merger, October 1st, 2016

  • Members of USDA credit union as of the merger date, May 1st, 2015

  • Employees of the credit union
